The velvety dark purple foliage of ‘Blackbird’ spurge is striking in the garden from spring until fall. The foliage color is stimulated by sunlight so plants grown in full sun develop the best color and maintain it all season. Contrasting color is provided by deep red new growth, red stems, and the lime-green
bracts that surround each flower. ‘Blackbird’ grows into a compact bushy plant, is deer and rabbit resistant, and tolerates drought and heat once it is established. It is a good choice for beds, borders, rock garden, and containers. Although it is evergreen the foliage may decline in cold climates.
