Mary An Van Hage offers fifteen ideas for growing plants in ways that appeals to children in her book Little Green Thumbs. Written for parents with children ages seven and up, the projects are organized by seasons and use readily available materials. They offer learning opportunities on many levels and provide an opportunity for adults and children to interact in a meaningful way.
The projects are diverse and introduce children to a variety of plants from the mimosa to bulbs, annuals and succulents. Each project includes a list of materials and detailed step by step instructions that are accompanied by color drawings to illustrate each step and a photograph of the completed projects. Projects include a grass family made with nylon stockings, an indoor miniature garden, and a dinosaur terrarium. Although not an extensive offering of projects, and good one with excellent instructions.
