The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is special and Wendi Silvano’s book, Turkey Clause, is the perfect bridge between the two holidays. It is aimed at children 3-5 years old and can be enjoyed over and over as part of a holiday tradition year after year. A large book, it is good for reading aloud to a group or to that one special child.
Turkey Clause tells the story of a turkey who tries to avoid being the featured item on the Christmas dinner table. His solution is trying to beg Santa Clause into granting him one wish and he takes off to the North Pole. When he gets there he finds that it is not easy to get passed the elves and see Santa. He tries numerous disguises but the elves see through it every time until the last final try. Kids love the many disguises and the way the elves discover Turkey’s true identity.
The story line is simple, repetitive, and silly but lots of fun. Lee Harper’s whimsical and colorful drawings heighten the amusing and lively moody. For sure, you will look forward to Turkey’s gobbles as he moans and groans every time he discovered by the elves.
